Graeme Souness blasts Theo Walcott for 'not doing his job' in Arsenal's defeat at Chelsea

Graeme Souness has hit out at Theo Walcott for 'not doing his job' in Arsenal's defeat at Chelsea.

The Scot was unimpressed with Walcott's role in the Blues' first goal, a header by Marcos Alonso, who reacted quickest to Diego Costa's effort thundering back off the crossbar.

A superb individual effort from Eden Hazard and a Cesc Fabregas goal following an error by Petr Cech in the Gunners goal rubber-stamped the win for Antonio Conte's side, before substitute Olivier Giroud scored a consolation.

Speaking on Sky Sports, Souness thinks Walcott's inability to prevent the first goal from happening changed the game.

“Games at the highest level are decided by a piece of brilliance or someone not doing their jobs," the former Liverpool midfielder said.

"Theo Walcott – as he showed at Manchester United for the Juan Mata goal – saw the danger but decided to do nothing about it.

"The game from that moment swung completely in Chelsea’s favour.”
